L.O.V.E and the Power of Words

On December 22nd I opened my email in-box and found a message from my dear friend and talented motivational speaker Kelly Swanson, It was entitled “a love note from Kelly”.

When I opened it, my computer screen filled with text and my heart missed a beat. “What was this?” I thought.

I began to read and out popped unexpected phrases such as “gifted is just a start, friggin’ brilliant is more like it” and “you pour out your heart” and “..it’s time to stop questioning. Stop the wondering. It’s time to OWN IT.”

And then there was the “And I see it in you so loud and bright and bold and beautiful – that sometimes its overwhelming.”

I was blown away…floored, speechless! Imagine … reading powerful, kind words from someone you love and respect. Words that hold you up in all of your magnificent possibility. I was in tears by the third paragraph. Read More→

5 Tips for Dealing with the Dumps

Last time I wrote about a coaching client of mine who found herself in the pits… in what I call a DPH (Damn Pothole). I promised that I would continue this thread by sharing a few tips for navigating these nasty little surprises.

But first … the facts. We all trip and fall into a dark place periodically. Everyone, at one time or another, has been going along life’s merry way when … BAM … he or she falls head first into a dark, painful or sad place. Oops, there she goes ~ those dreaded emotional potholes.

I was recently working with one of my coaching clients who was in despair. She had fallen into one of her emotional pot-holes. You know, that crevasse that appears suddenly right before you, seemingly out of nowhere.

There she was, casually walking along in her life and then she suddenly finds herself in the bottom a dark and dank and familiar place.

In her case, this was a money pothole. She had received an unexpected bill and did not see where the money was going to come from. That was all it took, and she was tumbling down the abyss.

Expansion or Constriction? Your Body’s Clue to What’s Right

My wise and funny friend said to me this week…” Argggg! I keep working really hard to get things I don’t really want.”

I immediately knew what she was talking about; spending valuable time doing things, wanting things, eating things, buying things, hanging out with things I know I either 1. don’t want or 2. they are bad for me. Arggggg is right!

So how do we rein in our energy in and only use it for things that we love and are good for us? How do we eliminate those “I-could-of-had-a V-8″ moments when we figure out we’ve been going down a dead end?

It’s simple (even though it may not always be easy.)

The clue is within us; do we feel expansive or constricted? When we leave the person, finish the task, eat the food, watch the show, get up from the couch, hang up the phone…do we feel good or bad? Take a Chill Pill…It’s Only January!

What are you supposed to do if you just aren’t feelin’ the 2012 excitement? What if you are feeling too worn out or worn down to pick your butt (and buts) up off the ground and start this new year off right?

If this is you, no guilt.

The holiday season leaves many of us a little wonky. We’ve been untethered from our routines, our calendars have been bursting at the seams, our diets may have been sugar and gluten filled, we may have experienced high doses of joy or pain or both, and our adrenal glands have been on over-drive.

Then comes the new year.

I don’t know about you but I feel that I’m supposed to be perky and exhilarated and perhaps even effervescent about the blank canvas that lies before me. And on some level I always am. But sometimes not 100%. Read More→

“I’m not cleaning my house for you. Really, I mean it. You will be sitting on dog hair. That is after you moved the crap off the couch. Oh and the bathroom…well you’ll have to step over the toys on the floor. Oh and if we sit outside…you’re butt will get dirty.
